It is strange to see work done in weariness. There are men who shape the world around them by the sweat of their brow, not the contentment of their hearts. These men sacrifice their bodies, mind, and health to shape our world. Nothing is wearisome than performing an act without one’s heart placed into their efforts. Instead of a mundane yearning for money, he must weave cloth as if his beloved were to wear that cloth. Instead of passive indifference, he must build that house as if his family would reside within those walls and harvest food as if his loved ones would partake in that feast. His hands harness the world, not the other way around. As it is written in the 64th Chapter of The Book of Isaiah concerning God’s work on us:

But now, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of your hand.

Isn’t it our responsibility to do the same with the world around us? If so, build with your heart AS WELL as the sweat of your brow; if this is so, then all our actions will allow us to reap what we sew.

When triumph comes through a wife, a child, or another family member, the patriarch tends to claim that he is the reason for their success. When we widen our influence to include everyone else’s conquest, it creates an environment that breeds contempt. Therefore, if a man proclaims, “I have a handsome horse,” he must become aware that his elation is a byproduct of the horse. When his son succeeds in schooling, education, and career, the father’s elation is not a product of his ability. Too often, men attempt to live through their sons, assuming that he is the root cause of their decedent’s success. Such logic is malum in se. A man’s role is to put more into the world than he receives; such an action is impossible if he continues to inflate his influence artificially. A man must be elated through merit that is his own, ensuring that he does not take credit for the work of others. Once more men understand this fact, there will be less resentment in the culture and the world.

Truth is the foundation of every great form of character. Truth is the straight line in morals, the shortest distance between a fact and the expression of it. Truth is the nature of things, the cornerstone of civilization, and the basis for higher education. To tell the truth is to express a collected consciousness, building towards higher levels of thought. Dishonesty is the hatred of society, a malum in se approach to the world. He who sacrifices ideals, truth, and character for money or position weighs his conscience in one pan of a scale against a bag of gold in another. There is a vital difference between error and untruthfulness. A man may be in error and yet live bravely by it; he who is untruthful in his life knows the truth but denies it. The man with a particular religious belief and fears discussing it is not loyal to his faith. He has nothing more than a coward’s faithfulness to his prejudices. If he were a lover of truth, he would be willing to surrender his belief for a higher faith at any moment. As it is written in the Tao te Ching:

Great truth seems false

Great skill seems clumsy

Great eloquence seems like babble

Truth is the basis of civilization, a collection of what is verifiable and par dieu. Without a collected belief, society cannot be sustained.

Life and death are nothing more than two halves of a causality cycle. When we eat, we sustain our life through the extinction of our prey's life. When we drink milk, crush grapes into a press, or drink the water of a spring, we delay our death through resources that cause harm to something else. When we realize this, we begin to understand the fullness of life and its consequences of it. Some may think that only humans partake in this cycle, but this could not be further from the truth! Even if man disappeared from the globe's surface, the grass would still be the prey of cows, the rabbit of the fox, and the sheep to the wolf. Despite what the Weather Underground would like people to believe, no animal under the banner of Heaven is guiltless of this cycle. As Kahlil Gibran put it:

When you kill a beast say to him in your heart.

If we are ever to come to terms with reality, man must understand that it is natural to consume animals and the fruit of the land, for it is held in the hands of causality. If philonoists cannot agree on this, we will face extinction not from factors outside of our hands but through fighting against nature itself.

Perceptions shape our realities. Our acuity, not the reality of the situation, makes us grieve or elate. Our perception of attachment, hope, and despair shapes how we interpret the world. It is our ideas which shape the physical world around us. Therefore, instead of fear of death, should one stand fast in belief in the afterlife, then death will have poise. Despite our fear of the unknown, grief at our loss, or despair at actions we cannot control, our perception can and does change how we see and interpret the world. Fear is a beast that feeds upon attention. If our fear is shifted through our interpretation of the world, we can accept the world as it is, ensuring that we live and die with dignity. Even death has an elegance all its own.

As it turns out, worry is the most popular form of suicide. When a man worries, he increases his chances of stroke and heart attack. When a man worries, he discounts his future woes, draws them to himself, and accepts present misery. When a man, miserable from mental gymnastics, agrees that those things are out of his control, he begins to understand a few things. He comes to fully understand that if he could spend a whole series of eternities in worry, drowning mala fide, it would not change anything. It is a time for action, not worry, because worry paralyzes both thoughts and deeds simultaneously. If he cannot prevent the results of his fears, he must develop adequate mental concentration to meet them bravely, lighten its force, and plan accordingly. If he can avoid the evil he fears, he does not need to worry, as he would dissipate energy in his hour of need. As it is written in the 8th verse of the Tao te Ching:

Live in accordance with the nature of things:

Build your house on solid ground.

Keep your mind still.
