Remembering the Patriots
Today is July 4, 2021, and it is 0300 as I write this. After a year of lockdowns, a year of being told that the country I fought for is “Systemically Racist,” and six months into the Biden Presidency, I can say without question that American heroes are needed now more than ever. We need to be reminded of George Washington, whose leadership in the Revolutionary War led to the founding of the United States in the first place. We need to be reminded of Andrew Jackson, who rid Louisiana of the British in the War of 1812 (well, technically the Battle of New Orleans happened after the British withdrew, but they didn’t know that). We need to be reminded of Abraham Lincoln keeping the country from fracturing during the Civil War. We need to remember World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and all of the conflicts within the Middle East. Whether or not you agree with the reasons that some of these conflicts happened, we need to remember the brave Men and Women who made so many of our victories possible, and aided in making our country a reality in the first place.
